About the event

This is a free exhibition of Shade the UK’s ‘40 degree stories’ project, curated in partnership with the Islington Climate Centre.

Photographic portraits of Islington residents who have shared their  personal experiences of the heatwave of summer 2022 with us will be on  display alongside their stories.

Opening times: 10am to 6pm Tuesday 25 June, Wednesday 26  June and Thursday 27 June.

The scorching summer of 2022 will forever be etched in the memories  of Londoners. From 16 to 19 July, an unprecedented heatwave swept across the nation and the city, leaving a trail of records broken and  communities tested.

As the heat soared to a historic 40.3°C, we bore  witness to the immense challenges faced by vulnerable groups of people, the strains on essential services, and the untold stories of resilience  and struggle.

Over the last couple of years Shade the UK has collected  personal stories about how different people experienced this momentous  heatwave, shedding light on the impact it had on vulnerable groups.

Notes:

Shade the UK is an Islington  based community interest company (CIC). They work collaboratively to  adapt the built environment and public spaces to protect vulnerable  people against a changing climate.

The Islington Climate Centre is a local community hub and education centre run by volunteers . It  enables community resilience and adaptation for a sustainable future.
